Curbside Trash Pickup: Holidays and Special Items
NEW Curbside Pickup Schedule in Alachua County – Effective October 2026
Garbage, recycling and yard waste are collected weekly for Alachua County residents residing in the mandatory curbside collection areas. Effective October 1, 2026, GFL and the county rebalanced the collection day routes in an effort to provide better service. To see if your collection day has changed, enter your address on the interactive map located below. If your address does not produce a result in the map, it means that you are not a part of the county’s curbside collection program. You may be zoned to utilize the rural collection centers, reside within a municipality, or you may be a subscription customer. Contact your municipal solid waste department or private hauler for your collection information.
What Holidays Affect Curbside Collection?
Collection services will only be affected by these six holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (July 4th)
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Collection for these holidays and the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day if the observed holiday occurs on a weekday. Collection will return to the normal schedule the following week. Collection will not be delayed if the holiday falls on the weekend.
For example, on a week with a Monday scheduled holiday, Tuesday’s collections will occur on Wednesday, Wednesday’s collections on Thursday, and Thursday’s collections on Friday.
Does Alachua County pick up Bulk Items?
Yes! Bulk waste items, such as mattresses, furniture, and other large household items too large to fit in a garbage cart, are collected curbside from residential homes in Alachua County. No appointment is needed or required for the removal of bulk waste items and there is no additional cost for these collection services. There is a limit of two (2) cubic yards per week.
IMPORTANT: Items that will fit in a garbage cart or yellow overflow trash bag are not considered “bulk”. If you have more waste than can fit inside the garbage cart, you can purchase the official yellow overflow bags at Publix or take the excess waste to a Rural Collection Center.
Will they Pick Up Appliances (a.k.a. White Goods)?
Yes! To request the pickup of appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, and dryers, call 1-844- 351-0622 to schedule curbside appliance pickup.
IMPORTANT: Florida Statute § 823.07 makes it a crime to discard or abandon large airtight appliances—such as refrigerators, freezers, and clothes washers—without completely removing their doors to prevent child suffocation deaths. White goods with doors must have the door either removed or secured shut with heavy tape or zip ties. There is a limit of three (3) white good items per week.
What about Yard Waste?
Yes! A maximum of two (2) cubic yards of yard waste, or up to 10 reusable containers or biodegradable paper bags, will be collected each week.
Larger limbs must not exceed 5 feet in length, 8 inches in diameter or 40 pounds in weight. Loose items such as leaves, twigs, or grass clippings must be contained in reusable containers (no more than 35 gallons by volume) or paper lawn/leaf bags, weighing less than 40 pounds each.
GFL is not required to clean up loose items which remain after collecting larger items placed curbside, or collect material resulting from land clearing activities.
